Familiarity and authenticity.
This series focuses on capturing the warmth of shelter cats through peaceful, observational portraits. Instead of staging, I decided to photograph these cats in their familiar space to create authentic depictions of their natural state.
This photography project documents cats living in a shelter environment, focusing on observing and capturing them in their natural, everyday surroundings. It was my first experience formally requesting permission to photograph in a private space, and I approached the project with care, transparency, and respect for both the organization and the animals.
After the shoot, the final images were shared with the shelter as a form of collaboration and appreciation. This project reinforced the importance of ethical practice, patience, and trust when photographing vulnerable subjects.
